Georgia was stupid to attack and they are paying the price now. Do you believe it is in the U.S interest to be allied with a government that did something as stupid as this?
It's in Singapore's interest that the U.S stay strong, but Georgia is a ally the U.S don't need. With allies like them, who need enemies!Ghosthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05160118520611754510noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-297647034431552481.post-61003410913395673732008-08-14T23:23:00.000+08:002008-08-14T23:23:00.000+08:00The irony argument is not valid in this case. Georgian government officials were elected freely by the people of Georgia, where in Iraq Saddam was a dictator put in power by the US, and removed by the US. When Saddam invaded Kuwait, we intervened... and now the that Russia has indicated their true intentions, the US should intervene.

In this conflict Georgia entered a de facto independent region, but internationally recognized Georgian territory. Though I don't agree with their method of subduing the Ossetian people (which is why Russian invasion initially looked promising to stop aggression on the civilian population), Russia has now indicated that their goal is to topple the government of Georgia - this is wrong.

Georgia is a US ally, invaded by Russia. This is an act of war, and the US needs to move some of those troops from Iraq up into Georgia to face off against Russia.

If Russia was so concerned about Ossetian People's independence, then why the heavy hand to the Chechen region just north of Georgia? All they want is independence from Russia. Perhaps the US should issue passports to the Chechens and invade Russia if Russia cracks down on an independence movement in that region - THAT would be ironic!Steven M Nielsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08917953887136060455noreply@blogger.com
