Wedding Fatigue

By now, most people know about the wedding of the year between Prince William and Kate Middleton on April 29. It's almost a month till the wedding but already there are celebrations plan for the big day.

You can't miss it. On the news, in the newspapers, on the internet; the wedding is everywhere. It seem that everyone, everywhere want a piece of the action. In the U.K, in New York, in Singapore; in Singapore there are events plan over 10 days to celebrate the wedding. 10 days!

Now no one has ever accuse me of being a jovial person, and I know I will be accuse of being a killjoy, but enough is enough! Enough with the wedding; it's too much! It's everywhere!

I'm actually hoping the 29th comes quicker just to rid ourselves of all these wedding news. Do we actually need like 10 different interviews of how the two met? No we do not!

A Happy Marriage

Here comes the bride…by herself. (Sing it with music in the background; it’s funnier that way)

Desperation has a whole new meaning in Taiwan as Chen Wei-yih has decided to marry herself! Saying that she is uninspired by the men she's met but facing social pressure to get married, the 30-year-old decided to pose for wedding photos, enlisted a wedding planner and rented a banquet hall for a marriage celebration of one person. Her!

Now I know of women who are desperate for marriage but this is something else. What’s even funnier for me is the amount of support Chen is getting. Once this news was known, she has been received sympathetic comments online and even her own mother is helping with her wedding plan!

It seems people, or at least people in Taiwan, are perfectly fine with this! I don’t know if I should laugh or cry at that.

What's Next?

I know weddings are a big deal to a lot of people. I don’t really understand why but I understand that I am abnormal in this area, so I can understand most people would want their weddings to be exceptional.

Maybe it’s the information age but I am reading more about these exceptional weddings. Recently there was a big deal in the U.S about a couple who dance the aisle (in church) to the music of Chris Brown. I’m not too sure about the choice of music for the occasion but look it up on Youtube because it was very funny. Now I read that a bride in China has the Guinness World Records because she wore a wedding gown with a 2km long train. Not only that but the train had 9,999 silk red roses attached to it.

Now the funny thing is that it was the groom who came up with the idea (in a reversal of such cases) and his family initially opposite the idea as a waste of money (which is kind of novel because most of the time Chinese families want the wedding to be the bigger, the better). Dancing down the aisle and a 2km long train; what will people come up with next?

Another day, another year, another wedding

With the new year, came the invitation for a wedding. This time it's a cousin who I have known since young. Of course the whole family was invited, cue the madness that my mother has for weddings.

It's a wedding lunch and came early morning, my mother was shouting for me to get up. The lunch was over by 3pm and the main thing my sleepy head remember was the quiet 'cheers' instead of the traditional 'yam-say'. That bought a few chuckles from the guests, including me. It just didn't seems the same with 'cheers'. Who came up with this by the way?

Oh well. The wedding is over, and there goes my mother's madness.

It's over!

It's over! My sister's wedding is over and done with. Everything went pretty smoothly, with the expection that the coat I rented was NOT altered by the tailor. Outside that, everything went pretty much accordingly to plan. Had to open up a new table, but that's not a big deal. Now, hopefully the family will go past their insane phase and go back to normal.

1 more day

Ok. 1 more day to my little sister's big day. The score so far; a new fridge, a new coat of paint for the house, a new vaccum cleaner, and a lot of other stuff some people insisted are vital for a wedding day (why is a question no one bother to either question or answer). 1 more day of madness and my family will return to normal...or as normal as a family can get. 1 more day, 1more day, 1 more day...

A member of my family has went insane

My sister is getting married in July and my mother has offically went insane. Outside wanting to invite everyone she has ever met (some of whom she has not met in years) she is getting the house painted!

Now as the house is filled with the smell of drying paint, I have to wonder what it is about weddings that make most women take a leave of their senses. Painting a house for that small short time when people comes? Why? Must be a chick thing because I can't even begin to understand it.

Must go now, the paint is making me dizzy.
