Will America Leave Afghanistan this year?

Don’t bet on it! U.S President Barack Obama may have promised that the Americans would leave Afghanistan this year but it was always a tall order. Now, it does seen to me that the Americans are laying the groundwork for staying beyond this year.

It’s no secret what the American’s southern push in Afghanistan has been floundering, and even American General David Petraeus, head of the US Central Command which oversees Afghanistan, admitted that the Taliban has been more resilient than expected. So the war on the ground is not going well and if the Americans leave Afghanistan this year, it should be considered a loss of the war by the Americans.

That’s something neither Obama nor Petraeus want.

So when Afghan President Hamid Karzai suddenly announced that they had discovered nearly one trillion dollars in mineral deposits in Afghanistan…let’s just say I wasn’t that surprised. Suddenly it’s in America’s interest to stay in Afghanistan! There’s a trillion dollars in mineral deposits in Afghanistan, including rare minerals like lithium and niobium; it might actually be worth it to stay beyond this year for the Americans!

So don’t be surprise if the Americans do just that.
