Spain to Win

The World Cup starts tomorrow and it’s time for me to throw my hat in the ring. Frankly, I just have to go with Spain.

Yes I know everyone and their uncle is going with either Spain or Brazil as favorites to win World Cup 2010, but I just can’t see any team in this year’s competition stronger than Spain.

In goal they have Iker Casillas, one of the best keepers in the world. Their defense is anchored by Carlos Puyol. Their midfield is so good they could even leave out Marcos Senna, who was their defensive lynchpin in Euro 08. Their attack is blessed by both David Villa and Fernando Torres. The whole team is so good no one in Spain is even worried about whether Cesc Fabregas could recover from injury in time to start the World Cup!

That’s how good the Spanish team is and I think it would take a brave man (or a fanatical fan) to bet against them. Fortunately for me and my wallet, I’m no fanatic.

Spain to win the World Cup!

That's because all of the World Cups outside two has been either in Europe (always won by an European country) or South America (always won by a South American country).
Only twice was it held outside Europe or South America, both of which were won by Brazil.
