World Survivor Cup

The World Cup 2010 is starting soon but looking at the warm-ups of the teams, I have to say we should start calling this the World Survivor Cup.

Injuries to players before the World Cup are not new, in fact it happens all the time, but this World Cup has been especially cursed with the injury bug. Almost every team not called Argentina has a player or two injured. And these are not just squad members but important players! Just look at this list;
Portugal- Nani
England- Rio Ferdinand
Germany- Michael Ballack
Ivory Coast- Didier Drogba
Italy- Andrea Pirlo
Holland- Arjen Robben
Ghana- Sulley Muntari & Michael Essien

There are 4 different captains on this list! Some of these players are rushing to be fit so that they can play some part in the World Cup but almost all of them are expected to miss the first few games of their teams.

The upshot? I expect more upsets this tournament and that’s always a good thing.

I am so sad that Argentina lost. I honestly cheered for them. They were winning and out of the blue came Germany and made a mess. I had started to sympathize with them since my argentina travel. I felt connected with the country and its people, and I knew how much they cared about the Cup. It is a shame, maybe in 2014!
