The Chinese New Year is just around the corner, and you know what that means! A series of visiting relatives you rather avoid, smiling at bad jokes and a hearty reunion dinner. Only in Singapore, more and more people are now opting to have the reunion dinner at restaurants rather than the traditional home-cooked reunion dinner.
Now if you ask Singaporeans why this is the case, most Singaporeans will say this is due to convenience, modern living etc. I say their reasons are total nonsense. The reason why more Singapore families are opting to eat their reunion dinner at restaurants is because…well, there’s no one to cook for the whole family (the maid don’t count)!
Traditionally the reunion dinner is cook by the women of the house but as most young Singaporean woman nowadays don’t cook, the traditional home-cooked reunion dinner is no longer an option. Even women who do know how to cook, they don’t do it often so they have no confidence of cooking for the whole family.
Now I’m not saying this is a bad thing, I don’t care about it either way, but my follow Singaporeans; let’s call a spade a spade.
