SEA Games

For some reason, I just can't get my head around the fact that The SEA Games are on this year. So imagine my surprise when I heard that Singapore had already got its first medal of the 24th SEA Games in Bangkok.

Singapore got a bronze in the men’s team 10m air pistol event on the opening day of the shooting programme. The SEA Games officially opens only next week but no one in Singapore is really that interested in it.

Why? I think the most obvious reason is the lack of media coverage. You open the sports page in the Straits Times and you will see pages after pages of English football, even after the team was kicked from the Euro. Pages and pages of why it happen, who will take over as manager etc, but nothing on a competition Singapore is taking part in.

To be fair, the media is only giving people what they want to read. But if Singaporeans are to be proud of their national team, there must be at least some coverage from the media. Singaporeans can't be supportive of their team in a competition they don't even know is on right?

More media coverage for our national team please!
